Von der Leyen, Costa after meeting in Paris: Ukraine deserves peace that respects its independence, territorial integrity
Presidents of the European Council and the European Commission António Costa and Ursula von der Leyen said after their meeting in Paris that Ukraine deserves a peace that respects its independence and territorial integrity with strong security guarantees.
This is stated in a joint statement by EU leaders, which they made on Monday on the X social network following the informal meeting of EU and NATO leaders, which was urgently convened by French President Emmanuel Macron after statements by representatives of the US President Donald Trump's administration regarding possible peace conditions in Russia's war against Ukraine.
"Today in Paris we reaffirmed that Ukraine deserves peace through strength. Peace respectful of its independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, with strong security guarantees. Europe carries its full share of the military assistance to Ukraine. At the same time we need a surge in defense in Europe," von der Leyen and Costa wrote.
