Ukraine pins hopes for just end to war on Trump – Poroshenko on CNN
Leader of European Solidarity party, Ukrainian MP Petro Poroshenko said on CNN that Ukrainians want peace like no one else in the world and pin hopes for the end of the war on U.S. President Donald Trump, according to the website of the political force.
At the same time, he noted that Ukraine cannot accept compromises on sovereignty, territorial integrity and membership in the EU and NATO.
"The situation at the front is very difficult. Every week I and our team are on the front lines with our troops, doing our best to support Ukraine. We undoubtedly pin very high hopes on President Trump," Poroshenko said.
"You will not find people in the world who seek peace more than we, Ukrainians. We do have hope that, first of all, the United States will not stop military aid, because this is a matter of Ukraine's survival. We're not just fighting here for our land. Our soldiers are giving their lives for freedom and democracy in the world, in particular, defending the United States," he said in the interview.
"We have five uncompromising points. There can be no compromise on Ukrainian sovereignty, national identity, we will never again be a colony of Russia. Number two is territorial integrity. We will never accept Russian occupation of territory. Number three is sanctions against Putin. Putin needs to cut back on his ability to finance the war. There can be no compromise on financial and military aid. And no compromise on NATO and European Union membership. This is extremely important for us," Poroshenko said.
