For Ukraine, OECD membership no less important than EU, NATO one – Zhovkva

Ukraine is determined to move forward on the path of implementing reforms to gain membership in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), which is no less important than NATO and EU membership, said Deputy Head of the President's Office Ihor Zhovkva during a meeting with OECD Director for Eurasian Affairs William Thomson.

As reported by the presidential press service, Zhovkva noted that Ukraine is already developing a concept for economic development after the end of the war.

"Ukraine is open to launching the production of innovative products with high added value. Our state should become a high-tech country, attractive to foreign investors, with a reliable investment climate. Ukraine is determined to move along the path of implementing all the necessary reforms to achieve this goal, as well as to acquire membership in the OECD, which is no less important than membership in the EU and NATO," the press service of the president quotes Zhovkva as saying.

Also during the meeting, Thomson emphasized Ukraine's significant progress in the fight against corruption, in particular the adoption by the Verkhovna Rada of the necessary legislation, which allowed Ukraine to become a member of the OECD Working Group on Combating Bribery in International Business Transactions.

"William Thomson also noted the successful implementation of reforms in the economic sphere, despite Russian aggression. This is one of the prerequisites for our country's membership in the OECD," the president's website reports.

Zhovkva thanked the OECD for its important work and for preparing a document assessing the economic situation in Ukraine, noting the progress.
