Syrsky: Censorship is necessary in wartime
With the modern development of information technologies, it is extremely dangerous to disseminate certain reports, in particular about troop movements, "censorship is necessary in wartime," Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) Oleksandr Syrsky has said Thursday.
"You know that there [in the Law of Ukraine "On the Legal Regime of Martial Law"] there are many restrictions. This is not some news or an attempt to restrict someone's rights, it is a necessity," he said in an interview with the Baza project on Bayraktar radio.
"Censorship is necessary, but not like in the DPRK," Syrsky said.
He noted that with the modern development of information technologies it is extremely dangerous to spread reports about, say, the movement of Ukrainian brigades, and information silence allowed the successful implementation of the Kursk operation.
"The enemy did not understand the design [of the Kursk operation] and did not take [it] into account. He thought that we were no longer capable of any active operations. This is surely an exception to the general rule," the Commander-in-Chief said.
At the same time, Syrsky noted that there is sensitive information that cannot be disseminated, but the public needs to be told about the real situation.
"So that people realize that the war is here, people next to us are injured and, unfortunately, die. So that there is not such a sharp difference between the front and the rear," he said.
