Only security guarantees for Ukraine can become real guarantees for Europe – Zelenskyy in Davos

Only real security guarantees for Ukraine will serve as real security guarantees for all countries in Europe, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said Tuesday.

"Europe deserves to be strong. And for that, Europe needs the EU and NATO. Is this possible without Ukraine and without a just end to Russia's war against Ukraine? I am sure that the answer is no. Only real security guarantees for us will serve as real security guarantees for everyone in Europe," he said at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

The head of state underlined the necessity to make sure that the United States "also considers us important."

"For that to happen, America's attention must shift to Europe. So that one day in Washington they will say: all the attention is on Europe. And not because of the war. And because of the possibilities of Europe," he said.

According to Zelenskyy, Europe needs to know how to defend itself. Also, he said, "Europe should shape history for itself and its allies to remain not just relevant, but alive and great.
