European Solidarity denies reports about Sevastopol Marine Plant's work in occupied Sevastopol, prepares lawsuits
The information about the alleged permission to work in occupied Sevastopol provided to Sevastopol Marine Plant, which once belonged to the MP of Ukraine, leader of the European Solidarity party Petro Poroshenko, in exchange for recognizing the Russian jurisdiction over Sevastopol and paying taxes in the Russian Federation is false, according to a statement published on the website of the political force.
"In fact, this enterprise was one of the first that the occupiers nationalized after the annexation of Crimea... By December 31, 2014, all Ukrainian businesses in the temporarily occupied Crimea were to be re-registered 'in accordance with Russian legislation.' Since Poroshenko’s enterprise failed to do so, it was nationalized at the end of February. Accordingly, the statement about some kind of 'tax payment' is absurd – since it was not registered in Russia. The fake about Sevastopol Marine Plant was born in the midst of the 2019 election campaign and has been repeatedly refuted," the European Solidarity reported.
The party emphasized that lawyers are preparing the relevant lawsuits on the topic of Sevastopol, but noted the political aspect of this campaign and the potential harm to the philanthropic project to support the Armed Forces and the country's defense capability.
"The pressure of the political leadership on law enforcement agencies in order to justify any sanctions against Poroshenko, for which there is no basis, can also be seen as an attempt to purge the opposition... We believed and believe that political unity was and remains the key to victory and everything should be done to preserve it. And not to do anything that would destroy it," the political force stressed in the statement.
