Zelenskyy meets with Latvian Saeima Speaker

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has met with Speaker of the Latvian Saeima Daiga Mierina and thanked Latvia for its support, an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent reports.

"We thank for Latvia's constant support for Ukraine, first of all, for our soldiers from day one of the war and for our people who are outside our country today, as well as Ukrainians who are in Ukraine thanks to your humanitarian aid as well," he told Mierina at the beginning of their meeting.

The head of state also thanked the Latvian side for its humanitarian projects, support for the restoration of Ukraine, as well as other auxiliary projects.

Separately, the Ukrainian President thanked Latvian parliamentarians for supporting the Crimea Platform.

"It is very important for us to continue and remind the whole world that Crimea is part of our sovereign state, Crimea is a Ukrainian peninsula and we will continue this," Zelenskyy said.

In addition, he expressed gratitude for Latvia's support for the Peace Formula, and for the security guarantees that are set in the bilateral agreement, as well as for the allocation of 0.25% of GDP to help Ukraine.

"I know that next week we will meet Lithuanian colleagues in Ukraine," Zelenskyy said.

Mierina, for her part, assured the Ukrainian side of continued support and also thanked Ukrainians for the struggle "with which you support all of us."

"And today, of course, we would like to hear from you how else we can help, what else we can do, because, obviously, the situation is difficult. With all our heart and soul, we want this war to end as soon as possible," the Speaker of the Latvian Saeima said.

In addition, she noted the importance of the Baltic-Black Sea corridor.

"We will continue to help in the reconstruction of Ukraine. We have also committed to train 4,000 Ukrainian soldiers. We actively encourage all other EU member states to follow our example," she said.

"If everyone allocated 0.25% of their GDP to Ukraine's fight against the aggressor, I think life would be much better for you. And we need to think about how to strengthen our military industry tomorrow," Mierina said.
