Reconstruction of Mostyska II-Sknyliv railway section postponed until 2026

Reconstruction of the railway track on the section State Border of Poland - Mostyska II - Sknyliv (Lviv) has been postponed until 2026, according to the Operational Plan of the Strategy for the Development of Border Infrastructure with EU Countries and the Republic of Moldova until 2030 on the Cabinet of Ministers website.

According to it, out of the UAH 10.92 billion needed for the implementation of the project, the first tranche of UAH 4.27 billion will be allocated only in 2026. The allocation of another UAH 4.83 billion is planned for 2027, and UAH 1.81 billion in 2028.

The project will be implemented using international technical assistance, international financial institutions, the state budget and other sources not prohibited by law, the text of the document says.

In February 2024, former Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration - Minister of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development Oleksandr Kubrakov announced that the construction of the first major section of the European route Mostyska-Sknyliv would begin before the end of 2024.

Later it became known that Ukraine failed to attract funding from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) for the project. It was reported that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is studying the possibility of financing 50% of the project cost.
