Shmyhal: Despite Russian attacks, Ukraine maintains integrity of power system in 2024
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal says that despite dozens of Russian attacks on the Ukrainian energy sector, the country has survived and maintained the integrity of the system in 2024.
"Despite dozens of Russian attacks on the energy sector, we have survived and maintained the integrity of the system. We have launched a large-scale restoration campaign. More than EUR 1 billion in contributions from partners has been attracted to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. We are using these funds to buy equipment and return light and heat to people's homes," Shmyhal said at a government meeting on Tuesday.
The prime minister said that in 2024, the possibility of importing electricity from Europe was expanded from 1.7 GW to 2.1 GW, which helps balance the energy system.
"We have introduced an energy support package for citizens and businesses. Interest-free loans for individuals, loans for condominiums, housing cooperatives, for small and medium-sized businesses, preferential loans for large entrepreneurs. We are building decentralized energy as an important part of the post-war energy system," Shmyhal emphasized.
