About 100 Republicans in Congress support Ukraine, 90 do not, 30 wavering – Poroshenko
Ukraine is supported by more members of the Republican Party in the US Congress than not, but the results of voting on all issues related to Ukraine depend on the wavering representatives of this political force, says MP of Ukraine, leader of the European Solidarity Party, Petro Poroshenko.
"In the Republican majority in Congress, about a hundred Republican congressmen strongly support Ukraine. About 90 are against us. This is the largest number, and this is the defeat of the struggle for bipartisan support that the current administration has unfortunately suffered. And there are a little more than 30 congressmen who are wavering, who have not decided," Poroshenko said in an interview with the Channel 5.
"Now, among these slightly more than 30 Republican congressmen, the majority vote on the Ukrainian issue is being decided. And so far we have not won a number of issues," the politician added.
He also noted that Donald Trump, the president-elect of the United States, is "a man of results, a man of action," and this gives him a chance to end the war.
"On the one hand, this gives Ukraine a very big chance that this result will be achieved. On the other hand, this is a very narrow window of opportunity that we cannot miss... Trump has arguments for Putin. But Ukrainians must do their homework. We have no right to allow ourselves to be weak, because if we are weak, Putin lacks the motivation to end the war," Poroshenko noted.
