Some 249 people staying in Chasiv Yar, 7,500 in Pokrovsk, all children evacuated – authorities
More than 3,000 residents of the city of Pokrovsk in Donetsk region, including all the children, were evacuated during the past week, while 7,500 residents are still staying in the city itself, Head of Donetsk Regional Military Administration Vadym Filashkin has said Wednesday.
"There are 7,500 people staying in Pokrovsk now, more than 3,000 people left during the past week. We evacuated all children. Last week, 16 children [we removed from the city], now there are no children in the city of Pokrovsk," he said on the national telethon.
According to the official, there are 11,000 people, including 27 children, in all settlements of the Pokrovsk community.
"We are working in this direction. We hope that in the near future we will evacuate all the children. Some stores, some ATMs are still working in the city of Pokrovsk," the head of the regional administration said.
Filashkin said the occupiers are approaching Pokrovsk and are currently about 3 kilometers away from the city.
In the town of Chasiv Yar of the Bakhmut district, Donetsk region, there are 249 residents, while the town is completely destroyed.
"The town of Chasiv Yar is almost non-existent. Some 249 people are living in basements. There is not a single undamaged building. It is impossible to visit people there. If we have a chance to come there in the morning twice a week to provide people with drinking water, humanitarian aid and food packages, we are very lucky. The situation there is the most difficult. The town is almost completely destroyed and people still do not leave it," Filashkin said.
As reported on November 13, some 17,000 residents, including 246 children, stayed in all settlements of the Pokrovsk community. In Pokrovsk itself, there were 11,000 residents, including 49 children. In early December, there was information about the intensification of evacuation of community residents to other regions of Ukraine.
As of October 16, there remained about 400 residents in Chasiv Yar.
