Cabinet approves Strategy for Protection of Documentary Heritage until 2027

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the Strategy for Protection of Documentary Heritage as a guarantee of preserving national identity and statehood until 2027 and approved the plan of activities for its implementation in 2025-2027.

"On December 24, the day of adoption by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in 1993 of the Law of Ukraine on the National Archive Fund and Archive Institutions, which for the first time at the legislative level defined the legal basis for the functioning of the system of archive institutions and introduced a new integral category of culture and law - the National Archive Fund, the government approved a program document defining the strategic goals that will guide the archive sector for the next three years," the State Archive Service of Ukraine said in a statement.

It is noted that the development of the strategy is due to the need to overcome the remnants of the post-Soviet model of archival management, the demand of Ukrainian society for the affirmation of its national identity, historical memory and investment in the future, the active development of new generation technologies, accelerating the integration of Ukraine into the international cultural space, as well as overcoming the challenges that have arisen as a result of armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.

According to the report, the goal of the strategy is to define a holistic system of modern archival affairs that meets existing needs and tasks, and is also capable of responding to existing challenges.
