Ukrenergo receives EUR86 mln from EIB for building anti-drone protection at substations

NEC Ukrenergo received EUR86 million from the European Investment Bank (EIB) for the construction of anti-drone protection at key substations of the electricity transmission system, the company reported on Telegram.

According to acting head of NEC Oleksiy Brekht, in the context of Russian attacks on the power system, the protection of key equipment at substations is critically important.

"The effectiveness of the projects already being implemented was proven, in particular, during the latest massive missile and drone strikes in November-December. Work on the construction of protection continues. The more substations we manage to protect, the more stable the Ukrainian power system will be, the less the risk of forced outages for consumers," he noted.

EIB Vice President Teresa Czerwinska stressed that the EUR86 million investment is an important step towards strengthening Ukraine's energy infrastructure in the face of constant military threats.

"By supporting Ukrenergo in the construction of anti-drone shelters, we aim to ensure stable electricity supplies throughout the country, responding to the needs of civilians and businesses," she said.

According to NEC, since the beginning of the full-scale war, the EIB has provided the company with credit support totaling EUR136 million.

As reported, according to Ukrenergo's assessment, the protective reinforced concrete structures can withstand a direct hit from "Shaheds" - the most dangerous for high-voltage network facilities, and protect equipment from missile debris. According to the company's calculations, without protective structures, the damage as a result of Russian drone strikes on transmission system facilities would have been five to six times greater.
