Five ballistic missiles, 40 enemy UAVs shot down, another 20 drones don’t reach their targets – Air Force

Since Thursday evening, five ballistic missiles and 40 enemy UAVs have been destroyed, another 20 drones have not reached their targets (locally lost), according to the AFU Air Force.

As noted in the Telegram message, on the night of December 20, 2024 (from 19:00 on December 19), the enemy launched an attack with an Iskander-M ballistic missile from Rostov region, an X-59/69 guided air missile from the airspace of Kursk region, and 65 Shahed-type attack UAVs and other types of drones from Bryansk, Millerovo, Orel, Primorsko-Akhtarsk - RF districts.

The air attack was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare units, mobile fire groups of the Air Force and the Defense Forces of Ukraine.

As of 09:30, the downing of 40 Shahed-type attack UAVs and other types of drones in Kursk, Poltava, Sumy, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhia regions was confirmed.

Due to the active counteraction of the Defense Forces, 20 enemy simulator drones were locally lost (without negative consequences).

As a result of the night-time missile and drone strike, private, apartment buildings, medical institutions, warehouses and farms in Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, Kyiv and Kharkiv regions were hit.

"At about 7:00 on December 20, 2024, the enemy struck the capital of Ukraine with five Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles. The launches were carried out from Voronezh and Bryansk regions of the Russian Federation. As a result of combat work by air defense, all five Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles, that Russian criminals sent to Kyiv, were shot down," the Air Force notes.

"Unfortunately, after an insidious enemy attack, there are consequences on the ground. Fragments of downed missiles caused damage and destruction in five districts of the capital, unfortunately, there are dead and injured," the message also says.
