UK promises new $286 mln aid package to Ukraine

The UK Ministry of Defence said on Thursday it would send Ukraine an additional GBP 225 million ($286 million) in military hardware to help counter Russian aggression, Reuters reported on December 19.

The package reportedly includes GBP 92 million for equipment to strengthen the Ukrainian navy, including small boats, reconnaissance drones, unmanned surface vessels, loitering munitions and mine countermeasure drones.

In addition, GBP 68 million will be allocated for air defence equipment, including radars, ground-based decoys and electronic countermeasure systems against drones.

Some GBP 26 million is allocated for support and spare parts for systems previously delivered to Ukraine.

Some GBP 39 million is allocated for the supply of more than 1,000 electronic warfare systems against drones, as well as for the joint purchase of respirators and equipment to enhance the protective capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The UK also said it would provide Ukraine with more military training opportunities.

As reported, Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov met with UK Defence Minister John Healey in Kyiv on 18 December.

In 2025, the UK plans to continue supporting Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression, as well as increase sanctions pressure on Russia, UK Defence Secretary John Healey said during a visit to Kyiv.
