Norwegian PM: Ukraine asks for more air defense, allies just need to join forces to make it happen

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre called on allies to continue supporting Ukraine and maintain unity, which must be concrete.

He said at a panel discussion at the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) summit in Tallinn that they had to take the unity and make it concrete. He emphasized the need to ensure that the agenda set for each meeting built on previous ones, so that they could get specifics on the shadow fleet and on how to improve the coordination of their assistance to Ukraine.

The Prime Minister, in particular, emphasized that Ukrainians are asking for more air defense.

Støre explained that there were potentially more air defenses, and they just needed to get their act together to make it happen. He emphasized the need for more concrete coordination between Europeans.

He stressed the importance of maintaining support for Ukraine, recalling that Norway is increasing its efforts and will provide support in the amount of three billion euros next year.

He added that the Scandinavian and Baltic countries were the leading donors after the United States, and that they should be the same in both quality and quantity.

Støre pointed out that everyone is now waiting for the new U.S. administration, but that does not mean that we in Europe should just sit and wait.

I think we should also think about how we can position ourselves, how we can better coordinate our actions, he said.

The Norwegian prime minister also indicated that at some point countries should start thinking about what the future security architecture of Europe will look like.

The Prime Minister said that when the war stops or ceasefires are reached, they should think about what that means for NATO, from a position of stability and strength. He said they have to think about that too.
