Stano: If reports about transfer of soldiers from North Korea to Russia confirmed, this would mark that Russia not interested to look for peaceful solutions
The European Union notes that if reports of the participation of North Korean soldiers in Russia's war against Ukraine are confirmed, this will illustrate that Moscow is not interested in finding a peaceful solution, but is determined to toughen its actions against Kyiv.
This was stated at a briefing in Brussels on Monday by representative of the European External Action Service, Peter Stano. “If the reports about transfer of soldiers from North Korea to Russia would be confirmed, this would mark another level of escalation and significant increase in their cooperation, their meaning North Korea and Russia, defying even more the international rules and the international law. And this only illustrates how Russia is determined to escalate its illegal actions against Ukraine, that Russia is absolutely not interested to look for peaceful solutions,” he said.
Stano also believes that by doing so, Russia is stating that it is not interested in peace because “it bringing not only military assistance from all over the place, mostly from outcast regimes, but we are also thinking about using their soldiers for this.” “It also signals that Russia is really desperate in enlisting any kind of help they can get because they are so isolated and they are under so many sanctions that they are not able to do it in other ways and means,” noted the representative of the European diplomatic service.
Stano recalled that North Korea is under multiple sanctions from the UN Security Council. “It is an actor who severely disrupts the stability and peace and security, not only in the region, but globally, and relying on countries like North Korea only exposes Russia's weakness and increasing isolation,” he added.
