EU considers idea of voluntary aid to Ukraine from member states even if Hungary's veto remains – media
The European External Action Service (EEAS) is considering the idea of voluntary contributions to the European Peace Facility in order to provide military aid to Ukraine even if Hungary's veto remains, Bloomberg said on Monday, citing sources.
"The External Action Service, is weighing allowing member states to make voluntary contributions to the European Peace Facility," the agency said, citing officials familiar with the situation.
According to the EEAS's statement, such a scheme would allow financial aid to be transferred to Ukraine with the consent of only the country that made the contribution, rather than with the unanimous support of all EU members.
The sources said the EU permanent representatives will meet on Tuesday to discuss the proposal. However, it is unknown whether the initiative will receive sufficient support from EU member states.
The agency said due to Hungary's position, the EU cannot transfer $6.6 billion in aid to Ukraine.
