Poroshenko, candidate for European Commissioner on Security Kubilius discuss Ukraine’s defense needs

Member of Parliament of the European Solidarity faction, Petro Poroshenko, who is paying a visit to Brussels, discussed with Deputy of the European Parliament, Andrius Kubilius, the prospects for the creation of a European Defense Union and joint production of weapons, the political force reported on its website.

"During the meeting, we discussed the vision and prospects for creating an effective European Defense Union in the context of a long-term confrontation with Russia and its allies, as well as the financial and economic capabilities of the EU," Poroshenko said.

In his opinion, Ukraine's support in repelling Russian aggression should remain a top priority for the security of the European Union and Western allies. "I also told Kubilius about the situation at the front, the key needs and challenges currently facing the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In this situation, it is important for us to expand and coordinate programs of military-technical cooperation and joint production of weapons," the deputy said.

Kubilius is a candidate for the position of European Commissioner for Security and Space for the next five years.
