Nearly 4,000 educational facilities affected by war in Ukraine – UNDP
Nearly 4,000 educational facilities were damaged or destroyed as a result of Russian aggression, UN Assistant Secretary-General and Crisis Bureau Director Shoko Noda has said, adding that repairs of 30 schools had been fully completed as of September 1.
"As of 1 September, when the school year in Ukraine began, repairs of 30 schools had been fully completed, allowing more than 13,500 children and 1,200 teachers to return to their renovated schools," she said in an exclusive interview with the Interfax-Ukraine News Agency.
According to the UNDP representative, the project is designed to facilitate light repairs of 66 schools and the re-equipping of 112 schools across eleven regions of Ukraine. It includes replacing windows, repairing roofs, sanitary facilities, heating systems, and refurbishing bomb shelters.
