Stradivarius violin smuggle prevented by Border Guard Service
The border guards of the Lviv detachment found a violin, probably by the Italian master Stradivarius, in a car heading to leave Ukraine, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported on its website on Thursday.
"The violin is marked as Antonius Stradiuarius Cremomentis Faciebad Anno 1728. It was found in the trunk of a Mitsubishi car at the Krakovets checkpoint on the border with Poland. The violin may be an original instrument made by the Italian master Antonio Stradivari. This instrument has a special purity of sound and is appreciated in the world," the message says.
Representatives of the customs seized the musical instrument and handed it over for examination, which will determine whether it is of cultural and historical value, the department said.
