EU Ambassador on accession talks with Ukraine: Long technical path ahead
Screening of Ukrainian legislation for its compliance with the rules and regulations of the European Union is now in full swing, but Ukraine still has a long technical path ahead to join the European Union, Ambassador of the European Union to Ukraine Katarína Mathernová said.
"The bilateral screening process is now in full swing. This is the stage where we compare Ukrainian legislation and institutions to the EU aquis- the rules and norms that bind the EU," the ambassador said in an exclusive interview with Interfax-Ukraine.
Mathernová stressed that she was impressed by Ukraine’s ability and determination to implement reforms and move towards EU membership, while at the same time waging war against brutal Russian aggression.
"Having said that, there is still a long technical road ahead of us. Accession process is complicated and cannot be done overnight," she stressed.
