Zelenskyy: Mongolia's refusal to arrest Putin is whole world's responsibility
Mongolia's refusal as a State Party of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to arrest Vladimir Putin is the responsibility of the whole world, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said on Wednesday, emphasizing that the degradation of the system of law must be stopped.
"The Rome Statute is supposed to work, but recently Mongolia has made an exception for Putin. And this is not just somebody's specific [responsibility], this is the responsibility of the whole world – the degradation of the system of law must be stopped, the demolition of the remaining norms must not be allowed," he said during the international conference United for Justice in Kyiv, dedicated to bringing Russia to justice for its attacks on the civilian infrastructure of Ukraine.
According to Zelenskyy, the system of law should work in a way that the Rome Statute and ICC warrants ensure the isolation of a war crime suspect.
The head of state also said the global community has to "pressure him [Putin], isolate him, force him to end the war and seek peace."
