One of two power lines to Zaporizhia NPP damaged again by Russian shelling
Zaporizhia NPP is again in the high-risk zone due to one of the two power lines through which the plant receives power from the Ukrainian power grid, damaged as a result of Russian shelling on September 2.
"If the second line is damaged, an emergency situation will arise due to the loss of external power supply to the pumps cooling the reactor cores and fuel storage pools of Zaporizhia NPP," Energoatom said on Telegram.
According to the company, Ukrainian specialists cannot yet inspect the site of the damage and begin repairing the line, since there is a threat of repeated shelling of the site by Russian troops. The line will be repaired as soon as the specialists are guaranteed safety.
As reported, since the beginning of the Russian occupation on March 4, 2022, Zaporizhia NPP has already experienced eight full blackouts and one partial one - with the launch of emergency diesel generators and safety systems. Their failure may lead to an emergency situation.
