UN WFP to pay for meals for 160,000 children in 2024 under school meals reform
The UN World Food Program (WFP) intends to expand the program of assistance to Ukrainian children in 2024 and provide meals to 160,000 people as part of the school meals reform, and also provide it to 100 bomb shelters in schools in Zaporizhia and Kharkiv regions, WFP Country Director in Ukraine Richard Ragan told Interfax-Ukraine.
He said they plan to expand the program this year to help 160,000 children, and are also working on concluding contracts with 100 schools in bomb shelters in Zaporizhia and Kharkiv regions.
The UN WFP Country Director in Ukraine said in the 2023/2024 school year, the UN WFP helped schools in 13 regions feed 90,000 primary schoolchildren. The program compensated 30% of the cost of lunches, and schools used these funds to improve the quality of food and reduce the cost of portions. In total, the WFP transferred almost UAH 79 million to schools.
