Almost 2,000 children staying in frontline areas of Donetsk region
Some 1,993 children are staying in the frontline areas of Donetsk region, where evacuation has been announced, while evacuation from Toretsk is proceeding very slowly, Head of Donetsk Regional Military Administration Vadym Filashkin has said.
"There are currently about 3,000 people in the city [Toretsk]. All the people are in basements, unfortunately, they are leaving very slowly: 10-15 people per day. [...] This is a very slow evacuation," he said on the national telethon on Wednesday.
According to the official, the police and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine are working with the authorities to help people evacuate.
At the same time, 60,000 people remain in the Pokrovsk community, people are leaving because the enemy is shelling the community every day.
Before the evacuation, there were 4,000 children in the ten-kilometer frontline zone, now there are 1,993 children. According to Filashkin, people are leaving on their own and with the help of infrastructure.
