Romania doesn't shoot down Russian drones in border zone with Ukraine – Defense Ministry

Information spread on social networks that Romanian air defense systems deployed on the border with Ukraine opened fire on Russian drones "has no basis," the Romanian Defense Ministry said.

"The attacks carried out by the Russian Federation were aimed at Ukrainian port infrastructure on the Danube, and not at targets on Romanian territory, and the forces and assets of the Ministry of National Defense deployed in the border zone with Ukraine did not open fire on the Russian Federation's offensive weapons in any such situation," the statement, published on the department's website, reads.

The Romanian Ministry of Defense strongly condemns the attacks of the Russian Federation on civilian objects and infrastructure in Ukraine, as they are unfounded and seriously contradict international law.

At the same time, it is noted that in recent days Romania has strengthened control and surveillance of the country's airspace by the forces and means of the Air Police Combat Service during attacks by Russian drones on Ukrainian territory.
