Emergency Service's head: We to increase staff of firefighters, rescuers at expense of support units
The State Emergency Service of Ukraine will increase the staff of operational employees at the expense of support units, as the country needs rescuers, firefighters and sappers, Head of the State Emergency Service Andriy Danyk said.
In an exclusive interview with Interfax-Ukraine, speaking about whether there are plans to reorganize the State Emergency Service system and whether there will be new approaches to work, Danyk said: "There is a war in the country, so the adjustments are related to it. At the expense of support units, we will increase the number of operational units – this is logical, because Ukraine needs firefighters, rescuers, sappers, engineers, divers, chemists."
He said due to some administrative positions, operational positions will be staffed.
As Danyk noted, the personnel training system also needs changes. "We are already working on this. After we approve all these conceptual things, we will show changes in the educational process," the Emergency Service's head said.
Danyk said it takes up to a year to prepare and adapt a rescuer, and training a sapper takes even more time.
