Emergency Service's head on 'waiters:' Govt takes care of each citizen, but individual makes own choice

Ukraine as a state takes care of each of its citizens, but a person who does not want to evacuate, expecting the enemy, makes own choice.

In an exclusive interview with Interfax-Ukraine, Head of the State Emergency Service Andriy Danyk answering a question about how he treats people who deliberately do not want to evacuate, the so-called "waiters," he said: "There are two positions here. The first, state: Ukraine as a state should take care of every citizen."

He continued: "The second position is as a resident of Donetsk region who has been evacuated several times: each person makes his own choice and decides what exactly he wants – to live in a free and independent Ukraine or to stay in temporarily occupied territory."

Commenting on the possible existence of objective reasons for the inability to evacuate, for example, sick relatives, Danyk said: "These are reasons that a person mostly comes up with for himself. There is a normal way out of every situation, and when a person wants, he does it. I would call it rather, a search for justification for one's actions."
