First auction to build new renewable energy capacity up to 100 MW may take place this year
An auction to support the construction of new renewable energy capacities, the so-called "green" auction, may be held this year, said the head of the Verkhovna Rada Energy Committee, Andriy Gerus.
"There is information from the Ministry of Energy that they want to hold an auction this year for the first 100 MW to implement new renewable energy capacities," Gerus said, speaking online at the IV Energy Law Conference in Kyiv on Friday, according to an Energy Reform correspondent.
"We want the auctions to start supporting renewable energy, as provided for by the legislation back in 2018," he said.
At the same time, he indicated that the committee is currently working on whether any changes are needed in the legal framework in this direction.
Meanwhile, the chief renewable energy expert of the USAID Energy Security Project, Oleksandr Martyniuk, speaking at the conference, suggested that such auctions would be held this autumn.
"There is a high probability that pilot projects for small capacities will take place in the fall. We need to show that they work. Such an initiative exists in the Ministry of Energy, and we are involved in it," he said.
Moreover, according to Martyniuk, the registry of energy origin guarantees will be ready next week, and in early August, training will begin for interested parties on how to use it.
