EU to take action on gas and oil supplies from Russia – Michel
Sooner or later, the EU will have to resort to measures on gas and oil imports from Russia, European Council President Charles Michel said on Wednesday.
"I think that measures on oil and even gas will also be needed sooner or later," he said, speaking to the European Parliament.
He recalled that the fifth package of EU sanctions against the Russian Federation will include a ban on coal imports from Russia, a ban on Russian vessels entering EU ports, a ban on transactions with a number of Russian banks to further weaken the Russian financial system.
Michel promised that these measures will be coordinated within the G7.
The day before, the European Commission said in a statement that the sanctions that the EU is going to impose on Russian vessels will not affect the transportation of agricultural products, energy and humanitarian goods.
