Seven million households eligible for subsidies – Ukrainian PM

Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman has instructed Social Policy Minister Andriy Reva to ensure the rhythmical process on providing citizens with subsidies for housing and utility services.

According to the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, such an order was given after a sitting on Monday.

"We, as the government, have done everything to ensure the start of the heating season on time and without delays. Gas storage facilities are full, reserves have been created. We have given gas to all heat supply companies. There are no obstacles from the state here. It is important that all enterprises and mayors now work properly. If they need help, we will help," the government's press service quoted Groysman as saying.

He instructed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities of Ukraine Hennadiy Zubko to organize monitoring and daily collection of information for each region.

"Where there are problems, I would ask the [regional development] ministry's specialists to go and see how local problems can be solved," Groysman added.

Speaking about subsidies, Groysman noted that according to the calculations of the government, seven million households are eligible for subsidies and that the groundless refusals of assistance are unacceptable.

"We (at the government level) removed restrictions that prevented [people from] getting help. Separate commissions were set up at social security agencies that should take into account the particular circumstances of each family that needs subsidies. I would ask the commission to accept people, and if there are real life circumstances, they should take into account the position of citizens. It is very necessary to make everyone understand that it cannot be otherwise," Groysman said.
