Groysman hopes average wage in Ukraine will rise to UAH 10,000 by year end

Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman expects that by the end of this year the average wage in the country will increase to UAH 10,000.

"The main priority is the average wage. And we want to increase this figure to UAH 10,000 (by the end of the year). This is a real story. Now the wage exceeds UAH 8,000," he said.

He noted that the whole economic policy of the government contributes to the achievement of this goal, including in the context of deregulation and the fight against shadow schemes.

"We have one goal - Ukraine must be strong," Groysman summed up.

As reported, in early May in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine the prime minister stated that at that time Ukraine had no possibility for making a decision on raising the minimum wage. At the same time, he predicted that the average wage in 2018 could reach UAH 10,000.

"We made a very systematic move, which, in my opinion, opened one more opportunity, namely, to unfreeze wages in general. We can say that we began to repay the debts to working Ukrainians, because their work has been for a long time underestimated. The minimum wage pushed the average wage. I believe that this year the average wage could already be about UAH 10,000," Groysman stated.

According to the prime minister, it will be possible to reach the level of an average wage of UAH 10,000 even if the minimum wage is not raised to UAH 4,200.
