USDA downgrades forecast for wheat harvest in Ukraine in 2018 by one mln tonnes
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) in July downgraded the forecast of wheat harvest in Ukraine in 2018 by one million tonnes compared to the June forecast, to 25.5 million tonnes.
According to a report on the website of the U.S. department, the forecast for wheat exports for the 2018/2019 marketing year (MY, July-June) was also reduced by 500,000 tonnes, to 16.5 million tonnes.
USDA maintained the forecast for corn exports from Ukraine in the 2018/2019 MY at a level of 24 million tonnes with the yield being 30 million tonnes, which corresponds to the figures published in June.
In general, the U.S. department reduced the forecast for grain production in Ukraine by one million tonnes, to 63.75 million tonnes, exports by 500,000 tonnes, to 44.21 million tonnes due to lower indicators for wheat.
As reported, grain harvest in Ukraine in 2017 amounted to 61.28 million tonnes, which is 4.7 million tonnes less than in 2016.
