Ukrainian finance minister says call for him to be fired is 'political corruption'
Ukrainian Finance Minister Oleksandr Danyliuk, whose dismissal Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman formally recommended on Wednesday, said he is being subjected to "colossal" pressure to support the program "Subventions on socioeconomic development of regions."
"Translated into human language, this means the distribution of money in favor of projects by majority parliamentarians. This is political corruption; the people call it 'buckwheat.' Today is the culmination. I've been confronted with the choice: either I go or become an accomplice," Danyliuk wrote on Facebook on Wednesday.
"I don't sell my country out," he wrote.
Danyliuk demanded that established procedures be strictly observed and that he have the chance to speak in parliament before the vote.
Groysman wrote on Facebook earlier on Wednesday that he had signed a document recommending that the Verkhovna Rada dismiss Danyliuk as finance minister and asked deputies for support.
