Poroshenko proposes to appoint Smolii head of NBU instead of Gontareva
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has submitted draft decrees to the Verkhovna Rada on the dismissal of Valeriya Gontareva from the post of head of the National Bank of Ukraine and the appointment of Yakiv Smolii to this post.
According to the official website of the Ukrainian parliament, relevant draft decrees Nos. 7500 and 7501 respectively were registered in the Verkhovna Rada on January 18, 2018.
As reported, a group of people's deputies has recently registered a resolution in the Verkhovna Rada proposing to appeal to President Petro Poroshenko on behalf of the parliament with the request to immediately dismiss NBU head Valeriya Gontareva from the post.
Gontareva in April 2017 reported on the decision to resign and on May 11 appointed her first deputy Yakiv Smolii acting head of the central bank. Until now Gontareva remains on vacation and does not intend to return to work at the NBU.
