Ukraine by January 9 produces over 2 mln tonnes of sugar
The production of sugar in Ukraine as of January 9, 2018, exceeded 2 million tonnes, according to the National Association of Sugar Producers Ukrtsukor.
Sugar refineries have already processed 14.07 million tonnes of sugar beet. "The production of sugar reached 2.018 million tonnes and already exceeds the previous year's output, but this figure is not yet final, as four more sugar plants – Zhdanivsky refinery in the village of Viytivtsi in Vinnytsia region, Radekhivsky refinery in the village of Pavliv in Lviv region, Narkevytsky refinery in the village of Narkevychi in Khmelnytsky region, and Horokhivsky refinery in the village of Maryanivka in Volyn region – continue work," the head of Ukrtsukor's analytical department Ruslana Butylo said.
In total, 46 sugar refineries worked during the season, which began on August 30.
Sugar production in the 2016/2017 marketing year totaled 2 million tonnes.
Some 318,000 hectares were under sugar beets in 2017.
