Council of European Union decision extending economic sanctions against Russia to take effect on Dec 23

The decision to extend the sectoral economic sanctions against Russia by six months, which was made by the Council of the European Union on December 21, was published in the Official Journal of the European Union on Friday.

"This Decision shall enter into force on the day following that of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union," the document said.

The Council of the European Union earlier extended the economic sanctions against Russia by written procedure until July 31, 2018.
