Member of NBU Council points out risk of suspension of IMF program without systemic revision of internal gas prices
A member of the Council of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Tymofiy Milovanov has said that there is a risk of suspension of the program with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) if the country's authorities do not settle the liability of systemically revising internal gas prices.
"The non-increase of the tariffs and talks on the possibility of returning to different tariffs for business and households [the source of corruption in times of the previous authorities] could make the IMF angry and result in the postponement of the new tranche or the termination of the program," he wrote on his Facebook page.
He said that the break in relations with the IMF could case many hazards to the country.
"International markets and politicians could negatively react and decrease trust to the country, weaken its support. This, in turn, would worsen the economic situation, strengthen populism and isolation, increase a likelihood of the economic and political crisis in 2019 and 2020," Milovanov said.
