Fish catch in Ukrainian water basins 14% down in Jan-Sept
The State Fishing Agency reports a decline in fish catch in Ukrainian water basins (inland water basins and seas) in January-September 2017 by 13.9% year-over-year, to 35,200 tonnes.
Fish catch in the Black Sea remained unchanged at 3,900 tonnes. Some 13,900 tonnes of fish was caught in the Azov Sea (31% down year-over-year).
Fish catch in inland waters grew by 3.9%, to 17,400 tonnes, while industrial catch fell by 1.5%, to 10,100 tonnes.
Catch in ocean rose by 8.1% year-over-year, to 7,900 tonnes. Ukraine also resumed Antarctic krill catch in the Antarctic.
The agency said that in January-September 2017 fish catch grew in some regions of Ukraine, in particular, in Kharkiv region 2.2-fold, Volyn region – 1.6-fold and Zhytomyr region – 1.1-fold.
