Kyiv says attempts to use UNESCO to legitimize occupation of Crimea will be stopped
The 22nd meeting of the Ukrainian National Commission for UNESCO, which was held at the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry on September 28, was devoted primarily to the situation in Russia-occupied Crimea, the ministry's press service reported on September 29.
"In our work at UNESCO, we must always remember that part of the territory of Ukraine is occupied and draw the attention of our partners to it. We will do everything we can to prevent any attempts to use UNESCO to legitimize the illegal annexation of Crimea," Deputy Foreign Minister and Chairman of the Ukrainian National Commission for UNESCO Serhiy Kyslytsia said.
The commission's members paid special attention to the monitoring of the state of cultural heritage sites in Crimea, the preparation of the register of moveable and immovable sights and objects of Ukraine located in museum funds on Crimean territory, as well as Ukraine's accession to the Second Protocol to the Hague Convention of 1954 for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflicts.
