An LNG carrier has arrived in Lithuania with LNG from the Sabine Pass terminal in the U.S., the first such shipment the Baltic States have received, the Marinetraffic.com portal reported.
The shipment arrived at the regasification terminal in Klaipeda aboard the Clean Ocean, Lietuvos duju tiekimas spokesman Paulius Jakutavicius told the BNS.
It is one of the first shipments of LNG from the U.S. to any destination in Eastern Europe.
In June, Lietuvos duju tiekimas signed a contract with Cheniere Marketing International, which is part of Cheniere Energy, the owner of the Sabine Pass terminal in Louisiana, on supply of 140,000 cubic meters of LNG.
One other LNG carrier from the U.S. is scheduled to arrive in Lithuania soon. In addition, Lietuvos duju tiekimas signed a contract on LNG supplies with Gas Natural Fenosa, which is scheduled to deliver a shipment of LNG to Klaipeda in mid-September.
Lithuania also receives LNG from Statoil (Norway) and Koch Supply & Trading (U.S.), which supply LNG from Norway and Nigeria respectively.
