Ukrzaliznytsia; situation with unloading of grain by port elevators worsening
Ukrainian railways in the period from August 1 through August 13, 2017 loaded 1.331 million tonnes of grain and grain products.
The press service of public joint-stock company Ukrzaliznytsia reported, that the largest amount of grain was sent to ports of Odesa and Mykolaiv: 6,200 wagons sent to ports are staying in Odesa region. This is over 40% of the total grain hopper fleet of the country.
"However, since early August the situation with unloading grain by port elevators has worsened. This leads to a delay of grain hoppers and accumulation of the loaded hoppers at the approaches and tracks of stations," Ukrzaliznytsia said.
Often hoppers are delayed over low quality freight, which cannot pass sanitary and epidemiological supervision, Ukrzaliznytsia said.
Railways have to impose conventional bans on loading of grain for stations that do not return wagons on time.
