Minister suggests linking amount of govt funding for higher education institutions to their quality
Education and Science Minister of Ukraine Lilia Hrynevych believes the amount of funding of higher education institutions from the state budget should depend on the quality of the education they provide.
"We understand that the system of financing universities needs to be changed, needs to be linked to the performances of these universities. Those who provide better education should receive more funds," she said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.
In her words, the ministry is currently working on relevant changes to the law on higher education in terms of funding universities.
In addition, this year the government scholarships in higher education institutions will be distributed based on the universities' performances.
In particular, legal studies, which are provided by almost every university, will this year be funded from the state budget only at the best universities.
