USDA improves Ukraine's grain harvest forecast in 2017 by almost 4 mln tonnes
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) in August improved its forecast for grain harvest in Ukraine in 2017 by 3.9 million tonnes compared to the July forecast, to 64.99 million tonnes.
According to a report on the website of the U.S. agency, the forecast for the harvest of forage crops was increased from 37.09 million tonnes to 38.49 million tonnes, wheat from 24 million tonnes to 26.5 million tonnes.
USDA raised the forecast for grain exports from Ukraine for the 2017/2018 marketing year (MY, July-June) by 10%, to 42.11 million tonnes compared to the July forecast. In particular, the forecast for wheat exports is increased by 2 million tonnes, to 16 million tonnes, forage grain by 1.8 million tonnes, to 26.11 million tonnes, of which corn is 21.5 million tonnes.
As reported, with reference to preliminary data from the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, grain and flour exports in the 2016/2017 MY amounted to 44.441 million tonnes.
