Netherlands' stance threatens adoption of Ukraine-EU summit's joint statement
The adoption of a joint statement following the Ukraine-EU summit to be held in Kyiv on July 12-13 is currently at risk, a diplomatic source has told Interfax-Ukraine.
"It is due to the Netherlands' blocking a possible inclusion in the joint statement of a clause on the recognition of Ukraine's European ambitions by the European Union," the source said.
This stance is believed to be related to the process of forming a new ruling coalition and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte's intention to once again play the 'Ukrainian card' in attempt to solve problems in the domestic policy, according to the source.
Such behavior by the Dutch side "causes disappointment and confusion both in European capitals and in Ukraine," the source said.
