Cyber-attack carries no real threats for Ukrainian power grid – Ukrenergo head
There are no real threats to the Ukrainian power grid due to a huge cyber-attack launched at noon, Ukrenergo Head Vsevolod Kovalchuk has said.
"This virus does not carry real threats for the power grid. Professionalism of our dispatchers and engineers allows managing the Ukrainian power grid without some pieces of software using Windows OS. I hope that soon the problem would be settled," he wrote on his Facebook page.
He said that the attack by the ransomware similar to WannaCry hit Ukrenergo's computers.
He also said that all state-owned institutions and enterprises are to unite efforts with the private sector in working out the efficient mechanisms for protecting them from modern forms of terrorism.
