NBU warns banks of external hacker attack using unknown virus
The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has warned banks and other financial market players of a hacker attack using an unknown virus at several Ukrainian banks and some commercial and public sector companies on Tuesday.
"After these cyber-attacks these banks face difficulties with servicing clients and settling bank transactions," the NBU said in response to the Kyiv-based Interfax-Ukraine news agency.
The NBU said that at present the security measures have been strengthened to prevent all financial market players from hacker attacks.
"The NBU is confident that the protection of the bank infrastructure from frauds in the cyberspace is properly organized, and cyber-attack attempts at information systems of banks will be neutralized," the central bank said.
The regulator added that it is monitoring the situation and would report on the current state of cyber protection of the banking system.
According to Interfax-Ukraine's information, companies Kyivenergo and Ukrenergo, some state-owned banks suffered from the virus.
