Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said that the European Union assured of the extension of sanctions against Russia.
"News that the sanctions will be prolonged is something we are glad to hear today," Poroshenko said during a joint statement with European Council President Donald Tusk in Brussels on Thursday.
Coordination with Western partners as regards the sanctions against Russia is important, he said.
"As you know, the U.S. has introduced sanctions and has confirmed that these sanctions will remain in place until the Minsk Agreements are implemented in full," Poroshenko said.
The Council of the European Union decided on June 19 to prolong for another year, until June 23, 2018, the restrictive measures against Russia for Crimea's annexation.
