Poroshenko, Groysman thank EU for decision to provide second EUR 600 mln assistance tranche to Ukraine

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has thanked the European Union for the decision to provide the second tranche of macrofinancial assistance in the amount of EUR 600 million.

"The president welcomes the EU decision to provide the second tranche of macrofinancial assistance in the amount of EUR 600 million to Ukraine," Ukrainian presidential spokesperson Sviatoslav Tseholko said on Facebook on Thursday.

According to the report, the president links this decision with Ukraine's progress on the way of reforms and believes that this is "a signal of full trust to the efforts of Ukrainian authorities strengthening macroeconomic stability and providing for economic growth."

"He also expects that the similar positive decision will be made by the IMF Board on March 20," Tseholko said.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman also thanked the European Union for support.

"Good news! The European Commission today published the decision to provide EUR 600 million of macrofinancial assistance to Ukraine! Thanks for support!" he wrote on Twitter.

On March 16, 2017, the European Commission approved the provision of EUR 600 million of macrofinancial assistance to Ukraine. According to the commission, the funds will be channeled to implement a large-scale program of structural reforms in the country.
